A few weeks ago, long time NFL GM/Coach Al Davis passed away. His famous quote was “Just Win, baby”, meaning do what you have to do, as long as you win. Some of his Raider teams won ugly, either by grinding it out or by actually bending the rules as well as opponents limbs.
Currently, there is a young quarterback in his second NFL season named Tim Tebow causing a bit of a controversy in Denver since he doesn’t appear to have the “proper throwing” motion and tends to run the ball a lot, not unlike a quaterback from the 1950’s. The controversy comes from his very strong and public (in your face?) religious beliefs that many feel are the real reason he gets so much attention and is allowed to play quarterback over others with the “proper throwing” motion. But he wins!
Our friends at Sklar posted on their blog that Tim Tebow was not an NFL quarterback, but I am going to have to disagree based on the numbers and the fact that he just wins, baby! Check out these hard numbers and facts: 5-1 as a starter, only 1 interception throw in six NFL games. On one of the final plays of the game against the Jets, he single handedly ran through the entire Jets defense for a 20 yard game winning TD score! Plus, he rallies his whole team – the defense is playing at a high level because of the Tebow effect! 
The marketing lesson in all this? Find your positioning, stick with it even through the initial tough times and doubters.
I have to say, I was a (optimistic) doubter, but now I am a believer! Just win, baby!
Update: It looks like the Tebow magic has worn off with three straight defeats. But they did back into the Playoffs – can he provide one more miracle this season? :)
Update: Holy Cow! It’s another Tebow miracle! Thrilling OT wild card victory over the Steelers! Next up for Tebowmania – New England and the Patriots!
Update: Well, it was fun while it lasted, but the New England Patriots put an end to Tebowmania with a resounding 45-10 victory. Go Patriots!!!
